In an age where we are brought up to seek out pharmaceuticals when we are sick, there are many natural remedies that can be used to help. Some pharmaceuticals have their place certainly, especially for existing conditions. However, natural therapies can boost your immune system to prepare your body to fight off illness.
I am a big advocate for natural medicines and remedies, so I am always looking out for and researching what products are out there. Many of these come in the form of plants, herbs, fruits and vegetables.
Here are just five of my favourites.
Cherries to relief joint pain
Cherries are great for reducing joint pain and inflammation such as arthritis. The antioxidant in the cherry fights the inflammation and flushes uric acid crystals formed in the body through urination.
Pineapples to reduce bloating
As I alluded to in a previous post, pineapples are full of goodness for boosting your health and wellbeing. The high enzyme bromelain helps to break down protein, so your digestive system works to reduce that bloating feeling. By strengthening your digestive system your immune system also improves.
Peppermint for sore muscles
Again, in a previous post I wrote about some of the health benefits of peppermint. Yet there are several more including the reduction of pain, headaches and soothing sore muscles. Peppermint contains menthol which promotes it’s refreshing qualities. However, don’t apply peppermint oil directly onto the skin. Mix a little with either coconut oil or jojoba can help sooth irritable skin.
Cloves to ease a toothache
A centuries old remedy for soothing a painful toothache by inserting a clove into the infected cavity area. Cloves numb the skin for temporary pain relief until you can get to the dentist. Clove oil is a popular natural anaesthetic which works to numb the area of concern to reduce the inflammation.
Apple cider vinegar for heartburn (or reflux)
In a glass of water add two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and drink before or after eating can reduce the feeling of acid reflux. The apple cider vinegar provides health benefits by introducing acidity into your digestive system to fight against bacteria making it easier to digest your food.
